Dr. Sindu Stephen was born and raised in the DC area. She completed her undergraduate and medical training from Kasturba Medical College, India. She served her internship and residency in internal medicine at George Washington University, where she was selected to be Chief Resident.
Dr. Stephen continued her training with a three-year gastroenterology fellowship at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She joined Montgomery Gastroenterology after fellowship in 2012. She has an interest in colorectal cancer screening, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and Hepatitis C. She has appeared as a guest on local television to share her expertise on colon cancer screening.
Dr. Stephen was selected as a top gastroenterologist in the Washingtonian Magazine for 2016 and 2017. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American College of Gastroenterology. She is actively involved in the Montgomery County Medical Society where she is currently a co-chair for the Women In Medicine subgroup. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
She is lives in DC with her husband and two children. She enjoys cooking, traveling, reading and exploring new restaurants.
